Iran’s dog owners face 74 lashes under new law

Under Islamic custom dogs are considered unclean.

Under a new draft bill in Iran, anyone who walks dogs or keeps them as pets at home could face heavy fines and up to 74 lashes. Dogs are considered unclean under Islamic custom and are not commonly kept as pets in Iran. The country’s morality police are known to stop and caution dog walkers or confiscate the dogs. Read more:
