Iran bans ‘devil-worshipping’ hair styles

Iranian authorities have banned ‘devil-worshipping’ hairstyles, along with plucked eyebrows for men and sunbed treatments. Clampdowns on unorthodox or ‘Western’ looks happen regularly at the start of each summer, and this year have focused on spiky haircuts. In past years mullets, long gelled hair and ponytails have been forbidden. President Rouhani has spoken out against the police enforcing religious or cultural values, but hardliners have gone ahead with the ban regardless. Read more: theguardian.com
