Police on Nusakambangan prison island in Central Java have been forced to tighten security amid reports that hundreds of people have begun turning up at Wijaya Pura Pier, the island’s entry point, in hope of catching a glimpse of Indonesia’s Alcatraz leading up to the impending executions of two Australian drug smugglers. Before news of the executions hit the headlines visitors were allowed to enter Nusakambangan to access the white-sand Permisan Beach. The entire island is now off-limits to both tourists and the media. Read more:
