When a humpback whale was spotted entangled in fishing gear this summer, researchers feared the worst.
The whale, named Lacuna, looked as if his health was deteriorating as a result of the entanglement. But a recent research trip in the Bay of Fundy yielded good news for whale watchers all along the East Coast.
While on a research trip in the Bay of Fundy, a naturalist spotted a whale she thought she recognized. As she approached, she noticed the telltale marks on the whale’s dorsal fin – it was Lacuna, and he was free of the fishing gear. The researcher reported that Lacuna was a bit thinner, but otherwise in good health. Read more: cbc.ca
