One Amsterdam hotel has trained staff on how to take the perfect Instagram shot of guests
Capturing the perfect moment while travelling is not always the easiest thing to do. Sure, you can always ask a passer-by to take a picture of you, but at this Amsterdam hotel, that isn’t necessary, as the bellman and the front of house team have been specially trained to capture to perfect Instagram-ready shot.
Introduced by luxury hotel brand Kimpton De Witt, the unique project saw them enlisting the services of Debra Barraud, who founded the famous Humans of Amsterdam blog. The hotel has some particularly popular spots for photography, such as a neon sign mounted on some greenery at the entrance that reads, “and breathe”, hanging rattan chairs in the hotel’s indoor courtyard, and a lobby that is paved in true Dutch fashion with Delft-inspired tiles. Debra, whose blog has close to 500,000 followers, held workshops with the team on how to take great photos for social media, teaching the front of house staff the tricks of framing shots on mobile phones, identifying the best angles and drawing emotion out of their subjects to create stronger images.
“My aim is always to capture the essence of what makes all human beings special and unique. Every person has a story to tell. I loved sharing my passion of portrait photography with the Kimpton De Witt team,” Debra Barraud, Founder of Humans of Amsterdam said.

Located a few steps away from Amsterdam’s Centraal Station, the Kimpton De Witt hotel has 274 guest rooms, with a curated design that honours local heritage in each one. Combing two late 20th Century buildings and three from the Dutch Golden Age, it’s clear that the hotel has a lot to offer photography enthusiasts interested in documenting their trips. The idea may be a growing trend in the industry, as last year a hotel in Maldives introduced an Instagram Butler service that saw staff members bringing guests to the most beautiful locations in the area.
“We’re super excited to have such a talented local photographer teach our bellmen her tricks of the trade. At Kimpton, we always aim for our guests to have memorable, meaningful interactions with our team. Now those memories will be captured on camera,” said Mike Robinson, General Manager of Kimpton De Witt.
