Houses of Parliament under threat of closure

London’s Houses of Parliament will have to be abandoned unless £3 billion is spent on refurbishment, according to Speaker John Bercow. The iconic nineteenth-century building, which incorporates the House of Commons, the House of Lords and Big Ben, was last refurbished in the 1940s to repair bomb damage. Bercow said that the building would become unusable in less than two decades unless the works were undertaken. Read more:
