Meet the woman who went on holidays with her in-laws... and without her husband
Imagine planning a honeymoon with your brand new husband and then going on it with your in-laws instead? That's exactly what happened to bride Huma Mobin from Lahore in Pakistan, when her husband Arsalaan Sever Bhatt wasn't granted a visa in time to enter Greece. As the trip was paid for, Huma went on the holiday to the paradise island of Santorini with Arsalaan's parents, but she took a series of fun pictures in every gorgeous location wearing a pretend sad face and holding her arm outstretched to indicate her missing husband.
To add to the hilarity, Huma accidentally dropped her phone into the Aegean Sea halfway through the trip, so she posed for photos showing that she missed both Arsalaan and her phone.
Before we feel too sorry for the poor groom left behind, Arsalaan and Huma (who call each other Arsi and Moby) had actually enjoyed a first honeymoon together after they were married in December 2015. On that occasion they visited the Maldives, and then planned a second ten-day honeymoon to Santorini with Arsalaan's parents.
When Arsalaan's visa didn't come through, the fun-loving couple agreed that Huma should go ahead with the holiday in the company of her in-laws, as the trip had been booked and paid for in advance.
Huma clearly wasn't pining too much either, as she has a great relationship with her mother and father-in-law, and went out with them in Santorini at night. She even posted a jokey picture of herself on Facebook pretending to throw herself over a railing in their company.
Speaking on a Facebook Live video, Huma explained that she enjoyed the holiday as Arsalaan's family were "crazy" like her and they all had a lot of fun together. The couple explained that they couldn't believe that the photos had gone viral, but Arsalaan said that he was very proud of his wife and her new-found fame.
The idea for the brilliant photos actually began a year ago, when Arsalaan was sent to Budapest for work shortly after he and Huma became engaged. He sent back a pic of himself with his arm outstretched and a pouty face to show how much he was missing her, and after that, it became a funny thing for them to do whenever either was travelling alone.
Some people have compared the story to the plot of the Bollywood movie Queen, where a young woman from a Delhi family goes on a solo honeymoon after her wedding is cancelled. Happily in the case of our lively Pakistani couple, it was only the honeymoon that got scuppered.
As the story spreads all over the world, something tells us that this couple are enjoying the very funny side to the tale, and their fantastic attitude teaches us that we should make the most of life when it throws us a curveball. Mind you, that's an attitude that's a whole lot easier to embrace when you're holidaying on a paradise Greek island!
