Historical Spanish site looted by French couple
A French couple have been arrested in Catalonia after being caught with excavation equipment and archaeological artefacts at the Empúries site near the town of L’Escala.
Police found 33 freshly dug holes in the grounds of the archaeological site, which includes Greek temples, the remains of a Roman amphitheatre and Roman villas, as well as a small museum. Coins, metal brooches and other objects were found wrapped in the couple’s clothes. The pair have been charged with theft and crimes against historical heritage. Read more: thelocal.es
