Hawaii residents warned about water safety after shark attack

Lonely Planet WriterOn Sunday afternoon a resident of Kapaau, Hawaii, was attacked by a 13ft tiger shark. The 27 year old was bitten on the leg whilst out spear fishing in North Kohala.

He was taken by helicopter to North Hawaii hospital where he was successfully treated for his injuries. The Department of Lane and Natural Resources (DLNR) reported that since the attack occurred in an isolated area no beaches were closed, but they are advising people not to enter the water during murky conditions which have developed after recent flash floods on Hawaii Island.
