Harry Potter fan travels across world for London rail station proposal
A life-long Harry Potter fan thought he had the perfect setting to pop the question to his girlfriend – and was happy to fly 5,000 miles from Texas in the USA to a railway station in greater London to do so.
Surbiton railway station in Surrey featured in one of the Harry Potter movies. In the film, Dumbledore encounters Harry at Platform Three of the station and spirits him away from the mundane world of muggles to Budleigh Babberton.
Using that theme as his inspiration, Samuel Goetsch (24) was planning to stay at his father's house in Ashford, Surrey before travelling by train to the platform. He then intended to go down on one knee and propose to his equally Harry Potter mad girlfriend, Stephanie Dodds (25).
There was only one problem though when he initiated the plan leading up to his romantic moment – he realised trains to the station were not running because of weekend cancellations by South West Trains.
The Daily Mail reports that an undaunted Samuel, from Houston, and his unwitting girlfriend jumped on a bus and eventually got to the platform ... where a surprised Stephanie said ‘yes’ to his question.
His father Stephen said: “My son wanted to ask Stephanie to marry him there because the scene in the movie is all about new beginnings.”
