The man was sailing in his 30ft sailboat when he encountered 20ft seas and and 46mph winds. The inclement weather destroyed the boat’s rigging, so the man activated a location beacon. A Royal Dutch Shell vessel operating in the area was dispatched to conduct a rescue. A dramatic video was caught by a Coast Guard airplane monitoring the rescue. The man can be seen leaping from the bow of his disabled boat. Hs cat was later reported to be tucked into his jacket during the leap. The man’s identity hasn’t been released. Read more: adn.com
