Winterfell, direwolves and lemon cakes; is this the ultimate Game of Thrones holiday?
Game of Thrones season 7 may not be starting until July but for those in need of their Westeros fix, Northern Ireland has launched what might be the ultimate tour for fans who want to experience the Seven Kingdoms without the prospect of a grisly death.
For the Ultimate Game of Thrones package, fans will get a two-night stay at the four-star Ballygally Castle. Situated along the stunning Causeway Coastal Route, many members of the cast and crew have stayed here during filming. It’s also home to an intricately carved door inspired by the TV show, which was carved from damaged wood taken from the nearby Dark Hedges when they were damaged in a storm.
During your stay, you can meet the direwolves who appeared in the show and have a full-day private show of 30 Westerosi filming locations, including the Stark’s own Winterfell Castle and the harsh Iron Islands, home of the Greyjoys. You’ll also spot locations used for the Stormlands, the King’s Road and the Dothraki Grasslands.
But an army, even an Unsullied one, marches on its stomach and the holiday package will look after that that as well. Nibble on Lannister egg rolls, Baratheon bread and Sansa’s lemon cakes in an afternoon tea menu inspired by George R.R. Martin’s incredible descriptions of food in his fictional universe. In the evening, guests can enjoy a huge 20oz ‘Tomahawk’ steak to get their energy back up.
The luxury package even comes with a ‘Winter is Coming’ moneyback guarantee; if it snows during your vacation, you’ll get a full refund. The odds are small but sometime real life is stranger than fiction.
The Ultimate Game of Thrones Package is available for £850 per person but Ireland Luxury Travel are running a competition until 24 May for a free stay for one lucky winner. You simply need to send in your predictions on what is going to happen in opening scene of season 7. Pray to the old gods and the new and it could be yours.
