Gabon: British soldiers to help combat elephant poaching

As some 15,000 of the 22,000 elephants in Minkebe National Park have fallen prey to ivory poachers, the president of Gabon has requested international help.

Britain is now sending 12 Northern Ireland-based soldiers, who have been picked from the Rifles, the Royal Scots Borderers and other specialist corps, to work at a training centre in Mokekou alongside local rangers. It’s hoped they can help on a tactical level. Read more:
