French tourists cited for possession of Pompeii wall fragments

Four French tourists have been cited for aggravated theft after they were stopped by police at the Pompeii  archaeological site and found to have fragments of wall stucco in their bags.

They had picked up the fragments from the ground rather than chipping them off a wall, and were cited by police despite the fact that the small pieces of stucco were not frescoed and had no particular value. Read more:
