The motive for the attacks is as yet unclear, though there are sometimes clashes along Tajikistan’s border with Kyrgyzstan, and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises against all but essential travel to the eastern Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast, which borders China.
