First new US-Mexico rail link for over a century

For the first time in more than a century a new rail link has been opened between the US and Mexico.

The North American Free Trade Agreement, introduced 20 years ago, has seen trade between the two countries grow six-fold and the new West Rail Bypass International Bridge should help to support this increase. The West Rail crossing connects Texas with the Mexican city of Matamoros, and according to the US Commerce Department should not only increase the capacity of freight that can be transported but result in cleaner air quality and less congestion in the surrounding areas. The new rail link project comes after US politicians have been lobbying for stricter border controls.  Read more:
