A new figure-eight shaped ferris wheel has opened at a resort casino in Macau, only one of the interesting features at the integrated leisure resort.
The cinema-themed Studio City Macau has television and film production facilities, shopping, gaming and a hotel on site.
Called the Golden Reel, the wheel is located between two towers of the resort’s hotel. The ferris wheel also comes with an interesting, and imagined, origin story. According to a Studio City press release, the figure-eight is envisioned as the result of two flaming asteroids crashing through the building in tandem, creating the shape.
The loading platform, which is 23 floors up, has an industrial revolution theme. The 17 ferris-wheel cabins have a “steampunk” theme and can each hold 10 people.
The Special Administrative Region of Macau is the only place in China where gambling is legal.
