On Wednesday friends and relatives of well-known surf photographer Jeff ‘Mana’ Walthall gathered at Makaha Beach on the Big Island of Hawaii to remember Walthall, who died in the waters off the beach on Tuesday. Walthall started his career in photography in the 1980s.
Walthall had been surfing and taking photographs on Tuesday afternoon, and he became unresponsive in the water after riding a wave. The exact cause of death is still unknown.
A memorial is scheduled on 24 October, which will include a ceremonial ‘paddle-out’ at noon. Read more: hawaiinewsnow.com
