This new map will help you find the best fall foliage in the United States
The glorious North American fall is an explosion of vibrant, warm colours and a newly laid crunchy carpet of leaves. Now there’s an interactive map to help you catch the very best of autumnal colours.
SmokyMountains.com created the Fall Foliage Prediction Map to visually illustrate the change of season through the United States. It uses more than 40,000 pieces of predictive data to help people find the peak times to see the beautiful orange, yellow and red foliage across the country.
While no tool can be 100% accurate, the map will help you find the best areas to spot some incredible foliage. Simply slide the bar at the bottom of the map along the dates to track the predictions for the best autumnal colours and plan your trip accordingly.
Wes Melton, the engineer who created the map, told Travel + Leisure that “in the past, leaf-peepers would rely on historical leaf trends rather than using a data-based prediction method. However, the millions of data points we analyse help us display an accurate, intuitive and interactive map.”
