Melbourne council to remove love locks from Southgate bridge

Melbourne’s Southgate bridge over the Yarra river has also suffered from the worldwide “love lock” trend, with an estimated 20,000 locks now damaging the bridge. The local council has announced that locks will be removed next week as part of the bridge maintenance but locals are being asked to suggest ideas for what to do with the symbols of affection. The locks on Southgate Bridge don’t need to be cut off as they can be slid off the support wires after they’re detached from the bridge and replaced. Read more:
