An 80-year-old man was rejected from a train station after trying to buy a ticket using a pre-Communist banknote. The ¥500 bill was printed in 1943 and featured an image of Sun Yat-sen, the founder and first president of China’s pre-Communist republic. Police had to be called after the man insisted on trying to use the cash, which became obsolete when the People’s Republic of China was founded in 1949. Similar notes have sold at online auctions for around USD$100. Read more: shanghaiist.com
