LA’s Echo Park sees an amazing lotus bloom a month before annual festival
A trip to LA is often centred on hitting up classic spots like the Hollywood sign or the Walk of Fame. But if you head away from the star-studded sights and into the neighbourhood of Echo Park, you will see something amazing blooming.
Echo Park Lake – a popular neighbourhood spot – has seen its incredible lotus flowers bloom early this year. LA Weekly reports that the lotus flowers have opened sooner than usual, and some locals are saying it’s the best bloom in years.
Last year, local media reported that the blossoms opened late and areas of the lake were empty of their usual gorgeous flowers.
And like with California’s superbloom – which saw amazing wildflowers brighten up parks across the state – people are flocking to the park to post some incredible pictures of the blossoms.
Echo Park is famous to people around the world for the lake, which is seen in the 1974 film Chinatown – but is now known as a top LA destination for hipsters looking to enjoy the local restaurants, cafes and art.
If the flowers have you contemplating a visit, the lotuses will be further celebrated next month at the annual Echo Park Lotus Festival. This year is the 37th year of the festival, which will be held on 15 and 16 July from noon to 9 pm. The attendance at the event is expected to be more than 100,000 people, with the majority heading from the Greater Los Angeles area.
