Dubai's new observation tower to rival Burj Khalifa
Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava, has beat off stiff competition to become the designer for Dubai’s new observation tower.
The tower will join a six million square metre development along the waterfront of the Dubai Creek Harbour and is set to rival Dubai’s own Burj Khalifa as well as the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Renderings of the new building reveal a needle-like structure tethered to the waterfront with a fan of cables, much like Calatrava’s Jerusalem Chords Bridge, with an observation deck at the top. Dubai is currently undergoing a massive phase of construction and renovation with projects including two rocket-shaped towers, an underwater hotel and a climate-controlled resort.
