This luxurious hotel in Co Kerry has had an €18m makeover - and wants you to bring your dog
If you're a dog-owner who hates leaving your pet behind, you'll be glad to learn that your beloved pooch can now accompany you on holiday and stay in style at a five-star hotel in Ireland. The Dunloe Hotel & Gardens in Kerry has re-opened after an 18-month and €18 million ($21.35 million) renovation, and it offers luxurious, dog-friendly accommodation that is sure to get a wag of approval from its canine guests.
For a charge of just €10 ($11.84) per dog per night, the hotel's VIP doggie guests can lodge in one of its special kennels, or else stay with its owner in a pet-friendly hotel guest room. Upon arrival, the furry guests will be greeted with a welcome pack full of goodies, including a pet toy, treats and clean-up bags. The room will be prepared with food and water bowls, a floor mat, a pet bed and a doggy throw to cover the sofa.
Overlooking the famous Gap of Dunloe, the pet-friendly hotel is set on its own 64-acre estate leading to the ruins of a 12th century castle and the River Laune. The grounds have 20 acres of gardens with a huge range of trees, plants and flowers that will appeal to both two-legged and four-legged guests, and there is an enclosed run so that the dog can run free in a controlled space.
The hotel's 18-month renovation of the restaurant, bar, reception, lobby and lounge spaces combines the beloved existing elements of the property with glam new spaces, terraces and design. The familiar stained glass flower windows have been retained, and the interior design combines existing pieces of furniture and artwork with a whole new fit-out that is rich in texture and detail, complete with bold wallpapers and traditional tiles.
“The double height window in The Grill Restaurant ensures that everyone will be able to take in the beauty of the Gap of Dunloe," says Philip Wohlfarth of Swiss company Monoplan, which took the lead on the design aspect of the build. "The new terraces and enhanced landscaping will allow the hotel’s customers to sit outside and enjoy the magnificent surroundings.”
