Disney has announced opening dates for its new Avatar and Star Wars attractions
Disney has finally announced when it will open its new Avatar- and Star Wars-themed lands, which will have fans of the franchises planning their trips to the US theme parks.
Pandora – the World of Avatar will open at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida on 27 May, according to a news release from Disney. The new lands are inspired by the 2009 film Avatar, and span a 12-acre area that will “immerse guests in the lush world of Pandora”. While the original film, from director James Cameron, was released nearly a decade ago, there are plans for more films to be in the future.
Pandora will try to create the unique world of film, including bio-luminescent rainforests and floating mountains. The rides will include the Mountain Banshee, where guests will take a ride through Pandora on the Avatar Flight of Passage. There’s also a more family-friendly ride, the Na’vi River Journey, which travels down a “sacred river hidden within a glowing rainforest”.
For fans of the Star Wars franchise, the new themed lands are set to open at Disneyland in California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, which will open in 2019. There, guests will be taken to a new planet from the Star Wars universe, a remote trading port and more. There will also be a virtual reality ride that allows fans to fly the Millennium Falcon and fight a battle between the Resistance and the First Order.
With more Star Wars movies being released, fans are eager to enjoy experiences related to the franchise, and the new areas are the largest-ever single-themed land expansions at the two parks.
