Delhi bans old cars to combat smog problem

India’s National Green Tribunal has voted to ban all cars more than 15 years old from the streets of Delhi in a bid to reduce the city’s choking air pollution. Diseases linked to air pollution are believed to cause 10,000 deaths in the city every year, and past measures to combat pollution, such as a ban on heavy industry in residential areas, have had little effect. However, the ban also has implications for Delhi’s much loved Ambassador taxis, thousands of which would be forced off the roads by the ban. Read more:
