Death toll rises as measles outbreak continues in DR Congo

The United Nations has reported that around 400 people have now been killed by the measles outbreak in the copper-mining province of Katanga, and over 23,000 more have been infected.

The epidemic has been dubbed the worst outbreak since 2010 and it is believed that hundreds more deaths have gone unreported due to the inaccessibility of parts of the region. The Doctors Without Borders organisation has been attempting to vaccinate as many people as possible, but the lack of transport infrastructure and the remoteness of the region have caused many setbacks.
