Dane rescued from icy waters 17 hours after falling overboard
A 47-year-old man has survived a 17-hour stretch in freezing waters and high waves after he fell overboard south of Zealand, Denmark.
With nothing but a basic inflatable life vest to keep his head above water, the Danish national attempted to swim towards where he thought there would be more maritime traffic but, despite waving and blowing on his whistle, several boats failed to spot him in the rough seas. Eventually the current carried him to within a kilometre of the coast and he was rescued by a couple in a sailing boat. According to the local police chief, the man intends to sail again, but plans to invest in a better life-jacket. Read more: thelocal.dk
