Crowd-funding bids to save Neil Armstrong spacesuit

The Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC has launched a Kickstarter campaign on the 46th anniversary of the first man on the moon that aims to conserve and digitise Neil Armstrong’s spacesuit from the famed Apollo Eleven mission.

The #ReboothTheSuit campaign is looking for US$500,000 in donations and in return will allow backers a behind-the-scenes tour with museum curators to see how the suit is preserved. The Smithsonian Institution is no stranger to asking for public funding and is in fact in the middle of the $1.5 billion fundraising campaign, but this is the first time the museum has partnered with Kickstarter.
