Taxi! The top 10 countries where it's cheapest to hail a ride
From yellow and black cabs to tuk-tuks to tricycles, taxis vary all around the world and so do their prices. While taxis are very handy for getting around an unfamiliar city, it can be hard to know if you're being ripped off as you watch the meter go up. Happily, a new report aims to give some perspective on that.
Business accommodation website, Silverdoor Apartments, looked at the cost of a one-mile taxi ride in 50 capital cities to compile the Global Taxi Price Index. It took into account the starting price and the cost for a one-mile trip to come to its conclusions.
The rest of the top ten cheapest journeys were filled by 2. Mexico City (£0.65/$0/85) 3. New Delhi (£0.76/$0.99) 4. Bucharest (£0.84/$1.10) 5. Manila (£0.87/$1.14) 6. Hanoi (£0.91/$1.19) 7. Sofia (£0.94/$1.23) 8. Bangkok (£1.04/$1.36) 9. Rabat (£1.05/$1.37) and 10. Ankara (£1.41/$1.85).
Seven of the top ten cities came in at under £1 ($1.31), which is good news for fans of city breaks. After all, much as you might like getting around by foot and exploring a new city under your own steam, sometimes at the end of the day, all you want to do is take your aching feet home in the comfort of a nice taxi. Particularly if you're laden down with souvenirs.
