Costa Rica to host 2016 World Surfing Games at Playa Hermosa

On Tuesday, the International Surfing Association President Fernando Aguerre announced that the 2016 World Surfing Games are to be held at Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica on the Pacific Coast from 6-14 August.

The country last hosted the games at the same location in 2009 and faced some criticism over lack of infrastructure and heavy traffic, but Costa Rican authorities in the area promise that the situation has been improved enough to support the roughly 100,000 spectators. Costa Rica’s surf team, dubbed the ‘Dream Team’, won last year’s games in Nicaragua.
