Costa Rica conservationists campaign for Cocos Island patrol

A two-month campaign has kicked off in Costa Rica to buy a speedboat to patrol the protected waters around Cocos Island. Parque Nacional Isla del Cocos is a Unesco World Heritage Site and thriving marine reserve home to endangered scalloped hammerhead sharks and tiger sharks, but its fragile eco-systems are being threatened by illegal fishing. Campaigners hope to raise $200,000 to allow park rangers to patrol the waters and intercept fishing boats. Read more:
