Revealed: Costa del Sol gets even more sunshine than the Canary Islands
Living up to its name, Costa del Sol is actually the sunniest area in Spain, with shining rays beating down on the region for almost the entire year.
The area, with its many beaches, draws in many tourists to the Andalucía region. It actually gets more hours of shining sunlight than the Canary Islands, a collection of islands located off the coast of northwest Africa. Costa del Sol sees about 2905 hours of sun each year, while the Canaries only garner about 2822.
The city of Málaga is deemed to have the best climate in the country, with about 3000 hours of sun a year – the most in all of Spain. It is also noted for having a mild climate due to the sea, which help keeps the temperatures tolerable through the year.
According to The Local, after Málaga, the report named the cities with the best climates in Spain as Las Palmas in Grand Canaria, Palma de Mallorca, Huelva and Vigo.
But if you’re in Europe and planning a beach vacation, be aware that the country also boasts the most expensive beach destination in Europe. According to a report French travel website Allovoyages.fr, Playa d’en Bossa, a popular resort on the island of Ibiza, is the most expensive beach destination.
