Visitors to Canada can purchase a silver coin in honour of Meghan Markle's marriage to Prince Harry
If you're planning on visiting Canada soon, you'll be able to purchase a newly-released silver commemorative coin in honour of Prince Harry of Wales and American actress Meghan Markle's forthcoming wedding. The Royal Canadian Mint unveiled the official royal wedding coin in celebration of the couple’s nuptials on 19 May.
Designed by Canadian artist Joel Kimmel, the coin features an engraving of one of the official engagement photos of the royal couple. This depiction is edged with Canadian maple leaves intertwined with roses and escallop shells from Prince Harry's coat of arms. Three Swarovski crystals edge the portrait, as a nod to the design of Meghan's three-stone diamond engagement ring. Queen Elizabeth is depicted on the back of the coin, which has a limited mintage of 15,000 and retails for CAD 104.95 (82.38 USD)
Canada is a special place for Prince Harry and Meghan, because the actress lived there while filming her role on the US drama, Suits. The prince visited her several times and hosted the Invictus Games there, an international multi-sport event he created for wounded or ill armed services personnel and their associated veterans.
"The Mint has a proud history of celebrating royal milestones and crafting a silver collector coin to congratulate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their marriage is our latest expression of Canada's special attachment to the Royal family," said Sandra Hanington, president and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint.
