Christchurch comes out to play again after devastating earthquakes

After suffering two devastating earthquakes in 2010 and 2011 the residents of Christchurch and the surrounding areas have come together to rebuild and redesign the city centre which will be transformed into a huge adventure playground.

A desire was felt by many for more family-friendly spaces so the city council set up a competition for local children to design ‘the world’s best playground’. The winning design inspired by Margaret Mahy, a local children’s author, will feature play areas for a range of ages and will include a giant slide, climbing nets and towers, a cafe and an interactive lighting display. The build will reportedly cost around $13 million and will be completed by Christmas. Read more: citylab.com
