Chinese official blames smog on smoked bacon

An official in Dazhou, Sichuan province has blamed the city’s air pollution problem on smoked bacon. The deputy head of Dazhou’s Environment Protection Bureau said that the local tradition of smoking pork and sausages around the lunar new year (19 February) has caused smog to settle over the city, sparking ridicule and outrage by online netizens, who believe emissions and building construction are to blame for the haze.
