This new luxury hotel on China’s Hainan island features its own private ocean
Travellers who want a more exclusive experience than they can find on a public beach can now head to a resort on China’s Hainan Island that has its own “private ocean”.
The Sanya EDITION is an oceanfront destination on Hainan island off the coast of southern China. The resort, which is set within 50 acres of tropical greenery, is by the city of Sanya, a popular destination for beach-goers in China.
According to a press release, “the landscape was conjured as a tropical oasis reflecting the islands indigenous flora and fauna and 900 trees meticulously chosen and transported to the resort from across the island of Hainan to create a sustainable and captivating environment.”
To add to the luxury, the hotel features a 20,000-square-metre private ocean, unique to China, which has an exclusive white-sand and palm-shaded beach on the north shore. To maintain the private ocean, ten million gallons of sea water is pumped in from the South China Sea throughout the day, recycling once every 32 hours.
And while adults may long to hang out by the water, there are some huge draws for people of all ages, like a rooftop bar, rock wall, Mahjong Rooms, waterslides, a tree house, a meditation forest and a spa. There’s even a private bumper car rink for kids, and an art gallery with works by renowned Chinese artists, with a traditional lotus pool and live bamboo grove.
When it’s time to relax, family cabanas and relaxation pavilions are spread through the forest, and each one is fitted with comfortable couches, flat-screen TVs and minibars. The hotel includes 512 residential-style guestrooms, including 46 suites, and an additional 17 exclusive hotel villas nestled into a terraced hillside, each one with a private pool and private outdoor space. All of the guestrooms in the hotel offer ocean views.
