China cracks down on illegal meat-smugglers

Police in China have broken up a series of illegal meat-smuggling rings that have been selling meat from animals killed as long ago as the 1970s to unsuspecting shoppers. Adding to the health risks, some of the meat was found to have been repeatedly thawed and re-frozen as smugglers used non-refrigerated lorries to transport their stock from city to city. Across China, more than 100,000 tonnes of illegal meat was seized during the crackdown. Read more:
