Chicago to Iceland: WOW Air offers its first connection in the Midwest
Budget travellers who want to get from Chicago to Europe now have a new option as low-cost carrier WOW Air announced a new flight from the Windy City, connecting through Iceland.
The non-stop service will get travellers from Chicago O’Hare to Reykjavík for fares starting at US$99 for one way – however one-way prices for the first round of flights have already risen to about $240. From there, travellers can connect to WOW Air’s network of destinations around Europe, which includes London, Dublin, Copenhagen and more for $149 one-way. However, like many low-cost airlines, this doesn’t include things like checked baggage, reserving a seat, and more.

While this is the airline’s first stop in the Midwest, WOW offers flights between Europe and Miami, New York, Boston, LA, Montreal, Toronto and more. The new Chicago flights will run four times for week starting on 13 July, but tickets are on sale now.
The low-cost flights to Iceland – from companies like WOW Air and Icelandair – have been among the reasons that the island nation has seen such an increase in tourism. With such a rapid rise in interest, the government is considering limiting tourist numbers at some sites to help protect the country’s incredible natural environment. While Iceland has a population of just 332,000, the country is expecting 2.3 million tourists to visit this year.
