You can get cheap summer flights from the US from these airports, according to Groupon
If you're planning to fly out of the US on vacation this summer, you'll be looking for the best price possible, so new research that outlines the cheapest time of year to fly out of the 20 busiest airports might be useful.
Groupon Coupons looked at five years of domestic airfare data across the 20 airports to determine what seasons are cheapest at each airport. Its findings indicated that some airports can be considered more “summer airports” than others. Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport has the most heavily discounted summer flights of all 20 airports, followed by McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. LaGuardia in New York only has cheaper-than-average airfares during the summer and it came in third place.
Boston Logan International Airport came in fourth position, and San Francisco International Airport was in fifth place. Flights that depart during the summer usually have cheaper fares than their airport’s average, but five airports actually have their lowest fares during the fall: Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport, and Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport.
Only one airport was found to have its cheapest fares on spring flights - New York City’s JFK International Airport. On the flipside, flights departing during the winter months tend to be higher than each airport’s five-year airfare average for all but four airports: Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, San Diego International Airport and San Francisco International Airport.
The study found it cheaper to fly out of airports on the west coast during the winter than it is the east coast, and winter fares tend to rise highest in the midwest and south.
