Cardboard Box Creations competition: and the winner is…

Kids Blog - Shadow Theater Header_No Text

Inspired by our Cardboard Box Creations book and the fact that many of us would have a cardboard box or two knocking around over the holiday season, last month we ran a fabulous creative competition. For the chance to win a bundle of our books worth £150, we asked our young explorers to make whatever they wanted from a cardboard box and send us the results, along with a line about what it was.

We were overwhelmed by the incredible creations we saw, so we were very thankful we had the amazing illustrators and author from the Cardboard Box Creations book to help us judge the entries – thank you Kait and Laura!

And the winner is.... five-year-old Zahra who made a travel-sized football table from her leftover box. Congratulations Zahra!

Here’s her winning entry, followed by what the judges had to say:

Zahra – travel-sized football table

'We loved Zahra’s creative super-cool football table. There were many factors that made this creation our overall winner: it’s a unique and original concept, it makes use of a variety of materials, it’s for travel… and it’s a working game! Zahra has obviously worked really hard, cutting out and colouring all the players, and it’s great that she can play with it with her brother now it's complete. And because it’s travel-sized Zahra can take it along with her when she and her family are on the move. Well done, Zahra!'

We also had three very talented runner-ups. Here's 10-year-old Toby and James' cat hotel, nine-year-old Yu's robot house with robot and robodog, and five-year-old Matilda with her rocket and robot exploring buddy.

'This cat hotel is amazing! We were especially impressed with how Toby and James built so many different rooms and activities for kittens Graphic and Pixel to explore. They are two very lucky kittens!'

Yu – robot house

'Wow! Yu’s robot house has so much attention to detail and so many impressive intricate pieces. We love the disco room (with real lights!) and rooftop garden – the perfect robo party pad. There's also a travel documentary on the TV – good choice, Yu!'

'It looks like Matilda had lots of fun creating her rocket and robot explorer. We felt this entry showcased perfectly the imaginative play you can do with a big old cardboard box… Great backdrop too!'

Thanks to everyone who entered the competition! Your entries were all awesome.
