Lanterns lit up for Buddha's birthday in Seoul

Brightly-coloured lanterns lit up around Seoul to celebrate the forthcoming birthday of Buddha. Buddhists in South Korea hold the Lotus Lantern Festival in advance of the holiday. Buddha was born an estimated 2561 years ago, but the exact date of birth is unknown. Instead, Buddha’s birthday is traditionally celebrated on the first full moon in May, which is 3 May in 2017.
