Japan ponders providing water and toilets in lifts

Authorities in Japan have discussed the possibility of elevators being equipped with portable toilets and drinking water, in preparation for emergencies that may result in people becoming trapped for extended periods of time. The move comes after a strong earthquake hit off the coast of east Japan on Saturday, rattling Tokyo and causing some 19,000 elevators to stop. People were trapped in fourteen elevators across the city awaiting rescue. Read more: japantimes.co.jp
