Curl up in a bookshelf and fall asleep at a book-themed hostel in Japan
If the only thing that matches your passion for travel is a love of reading, starting planning a trip to Japan. An incredible new hostel in Kyoto will allow travellers to curl up in a bookshelf and read until they fall asleep.
Book and Bed is described as an “accommodation bookshop”, and while you can’t actually buy books, it is filled with them, and guests can hang out and read well into the night. The hostel already has one location in Tokyo, but now the experience will expand to Kyoto.
While the hostel does provide travellers with a place to lay their heads, there’s no doubt the emphasis is definitely on reading. The website notes that there are “no comfortable mattresses, fluffy pillows nor lightweight and warm down duvets”, instead offering people a chance to experience that moment of reading with droopy eyelids until they finally fall asleep.
The hostels provide lobby space for reading, and the long bookshelves hide the small bedrooms where travellers can curl up and relax. In Kyoto, there are also rooms that overlook the Kamo River. The rooms all come with book lights, curtains, Wi-Fi and an outlet. A standard room rate at the hostel is about $45 USD. Visitors can also pay a small rate to go and hang out for a bit during the day.
The website notes that the hostel is also close to some sight-seeing spots, so if you can pull yourself away from your book, you can also check out the incredible city of Kyoto.
