Bolivia celebrates Alasitas festival of miniatures

Thousands of people came together in the Bolivan capital of La Paz to celebrate the Alasitas festival on Saturday, where they purchased miniature representations of items they hope to acquire in the upcoming year. The figurines are blessed with smoke before being sold and offered to Ekeko, the god of abundance. This year's festival was particularly special as a 2000-year-old statue of Ekeko was returned to Bolivia after being stolen by a Swiss explorer 150 years ago. Read more: bbc.com
