Boko Haram overtakes Isis as world’s deadliest terror organisation
On the day a suspected Boko Haram bomb exploded in the northern Nigerian city of Yola, killing 30 or more people, a report has been released naming the terrorist organisation as the world’s most deadly.
The Nigerian-based group, also known as Islamic State’s West’s Africa province, was responsible for 6,644 deaths in 2014.
Isis is believed to have killed 6,073 people in the same year. In 2013, Nigeria ranked fifth in terms of the highest levels of terrorism deaths, but it moved to second last year. Boko Haram violence has not been limited to Nigeria, however, with increasing numbers of attacks in Chad and northern Cameroon.
