‘Black Friday’ brings bargains and brawls to Britain’s shops

‘Black Friday’, in which shops offer large discounts online and in-store, has resulted in chaotic scenes in the UK. Some stores began offering cheaper rates at midnight, while others opened their doors at 8am. Enormous queues were reported and bargain-hungry shoppers have clashed, with at least two people arrested for fighting in stores. Black Friday, an American tradition, has become increasingly significant in Britain in recent years, as retailers encourage shoppers to spend money in the run-up to Christmas.
