Bicentennial of Battle of New Orleans celebrated with historic reenactments

Thank goodness for those feathered hats. Hundreds of people, many dressed in period costume, gathered in below-freezing temperatures at Chalmette Battlefield outside New Orleans on Thursday to launch a series of events that will commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans, when US forces triumphed over the British. Over the coming days reenactments of historic battles will take place, including the reenactment of The Night Battle of 23 December 1814 which will take place on Friday evening. Four other battles are planned for the weekend, concluding with the Battle of New Orleans which will begin at 9am Sunday. Read more:
