Benidorm enlists British bobbies to tackle troublesome tourists

Following successful trials in two Spanish island resorts, Benidorm has invited British police to help patrol its streets to keep misbehaving British holidaymakers in check.

Similar schemes were tested in Magaluf, Mallorca and Sant Antoni, Ibiza this summer in a bid to crack down on crime among British tourists, who are regularly fined for booze-fuelled antics such as fighting and urinating in the streets. More than one million Britons descend on Benidorm each year and the Costa Blanca resort is also home to several thousand British expats. The scheme is expected to come into force by next summer.
