Beached whale stuck on Nicaraguan shore
Tourists and locals worked together in vain on Friday to free a stranded whale that had become beached on Nicaragua’s southern Pacific coast. The whale, thought to be a humpback, measures about 59ft long and was discovered on Popoyo beach in the town of Tola, just 70 miles from Nicaragua’s capital city, Managua. Humpback whales and dolphins are a common sight on the Pacific coast off Nicaragua at this time of year. Attempts to rescue the large sea mammal continued over the weekend.
